The Children’s Department provides resources for parents/caregivers. We have parent specific magazines, a parent bookshelf, and programs for you and your child.
We recently reworked the parenting collection to make it easier to find the books relevant to you. Instead of confusing and inconsistent Dewey Decimal System call numbers, our parenting collection is now broken up into ten browsing categories: General, Pregnancy, Development, Physical Health, Mental Health, Disabilities, Family, Education, Life Skills, and Technology. Hoopla is now available for Guilford Free Library patrons! Hoopla instantly delivers thousands of free movies, television shows, music, and audiobooks for streaming on your computer or for temporary download to smartphones, tablets, and Apple TV. All you need is your Guilford library card. Please click the Hoopla image to sign up for free. Contains content for all ages. It is recommended that parents monitor the media consumption of their children and select materials to download from the appropriate age categories. Hoopla does provide a “child mode” that limits content access to materials Hoopla has deemed suitable for young children.

Bookshare: A free resource for people with reading disabilities, such as physical or learning disabilities. Sign up with them to get access to thousands of books in disability-friendly formats, including braille, audio, and large print.
KidsHealth: How the Body Works – Outstanding, easy-to-navigate advice and information on health, fitness, sports, and nutrition is provided by Nemours, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of young people. Also offers links to valuable resources for parents and teachers.
